The event was attended by government officials, community leaders, and project stakeholders.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Khushnoor Rubaiyath, who appreciated the initiative and praised iDE Bangladesh for their innovative and sustainable approach in providing safe drinking water to underserved communities. She emphasized the importance of maintaining the water plant for long-term sustainability and encouraged replicating such models in other areas facing water crises.
The Sirajnagar Safe Water Management Network, managed by Sirajnagar Safe Water Management Committee, is an entrepreneurial venture operated by Shirina Akter Sumi. It features advanced Iron Removal and UV Filtration Technology to provide 100% pure and safe water to over 50+ households, including pregnant women, children, and lactating mothers. The water is distributed through an ATM-based prepaid system and a monthly subscription model, ensuring affordability for all.
The inaugural event featured a technical demonstration by Tetra Water Ltd., showcasing advanced water purification technology and prepaid water distribution systems. Following this, entrepreneur Shirina Akter Sumi shared her personal journey in providing safe water services, ensuring quality, and maintaining sustainability. During the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Guest officially launched the water plant using the ATM-based water dispensing system, followed by a banner unveiling to commemorate the occasion.
Md. Hannan Ali, Project Manager, Uddokta Project, highlighted that this initiative is part of iDE Bangladesh’s efforts to promote sustainable water solutions through entrepreneurship. He reiterated the project's commitment to expanding access to safe drinking water in rural Bangladesh. The event concluded with a call for community ownership and active participation to ensure the long-term success of the water plant.
